The conversation about dentistry led to me thinking about how we really need to divorce ourselves from the health-care system and its jungle of bureaucrats and voodoo medicine. For those who've run to the doctor for everything from colds to serious disease and injury, it's a frightening, almost unimaginable idea. For those who are poor or have no insurance, it's a fact of life.

I saw Anne Currey's interview with the Dalai Lama tonight. I was overcome with the impression that I was watching an avatar. For those of you who don't know what that is, it is a manifestation in flesh of the essence of God, whatever you may perceive That to be.

Haven't read the book, but I came across this article about it.  I admire the author's honest conclusions, especially her statement that we live in the most exciting time in history.  Surely it is turning into one of the most difficult times.  Though this article doesn't highlight it, the author seems to have a grasp of the fact that problems are also opportunities.
