Angel at the Post Office

Beloveds,

I know this story has been circulating for awhile.  I received it for the second time in a recent email.  I was still deeply moved by reading it.  And I wanted to share it here.  More details here.

In gratitude, joy, and love
Bodhi

Angel at the Post Office

This is one of the kindest things I've ever experienced.  I have no way to know who sent it, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office of the US Postal Service.

Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey.  She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:

Dear God,

Will you please take care of my dog?   She died yesterday and is with you in heaven.  I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.

I hope you will play with her.   She likes to play with balls and to swim.  I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.

Love, Meredith.

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven.  We put our return address on it.  Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven.  That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office.  A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet.  I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front  porch addressed, 'To Meredith,' in an unfamiliar hand.   Meredith opened it.  Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, 'When a Pet Dies.' Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope.  On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

Dear Meredith,

Abbey arrived safely in heaven.

Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away.

Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart.  Abbey loved being your dog.  Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in,  so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.

I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.

By the way, I'm easy to find, I am wherever there is love.

Love,
God

...makes my eyes a little moist. I'd like to think that stories like these inspire people to be God's hands and eyes from time to time. We hear so much about copycat killings and crimes. Why not copycat angels? Isn't that being the change we wish to see in the world?

Hi! I've missed you (and everyone)!  It's nice to be back and catch up ~ I have been dealing with the aftermath of a tornado or straight line winds (the weather people can't seem to decide; I say "TORNADO").  My front yard looks like a war zone . . . we lost 2 trees, shingles from our roof, a fence, a basketball goal/pole, etc.  I will post some pictures soon ~ it was a terrifying storm!

Much love and many blessings, sweet Bodhi!

Penny :-)

With lots of love and warm wishes,
Fred

Dog Bless us, each and every one (tiny tim reference alert).  I must admit, I have learned more about unconditional love, acceptance and willingness from the dogs who have owned me than anyone from religion or my own species!

A hearty concurrence with your sentiment Riversong,

Chris

I know how much animal friends enrich our lives! They teach us how to be better more caring beings. I am glad that you had such a friend and teacher. There are those who believe in god, those that believe we are all god,Those who believe a flying spaghetti monster is responsible for all that is.I believe that each of us is responsible for our decisions. I don't believe in god myself.......more like this is an elaborate episode of candid camera!  Sometimes things happen that make me look for the camera......but if you see the camera,it would ruin that episode!  Take good care of yourself.   Love Mary

I thought it was a "talking snake" MaryC?  Haaaaahahahaha

You know what is really cool?  If "God" exists, she/he/it must have a sense of humor and no capacity for "being offended"

And a Dog shall lead them....

Riversong, I honor your beliefs. I honor your path. I have my own. A little levity is good. I am not afraid of falling pianos! Love Mary

Some years ago I was going to church, entrenched in the typical American Christianity paradigm with a side of prosperity doctrine to go, and I would have never been able to joke about God. I am soooo happy now that my trust in God (or whatever name one wishes to call whatever reality is) has transcended fear of retribution, one of the most efficient controlling mechanisms that organized religion uses, whether conscious of it or not. There is such a sense of liberation that accompanies belief/understanding without the fear. It also helped me release rigid dogmatic tendencies that limit communication. There is always a way to talk to my brother or sister, no matter what they say they believe.

If, by changing God to Dog, I can communicate more effectively with fractals of the One, than I jump at the opportunity. Some years ago I was not capable of seeing that opportunity, only ways to make me (ego) superior with my chosen doctrine at the time.

Man, I love the willingness for pondering things and ideas on this beloved TT portal!!!!!
