Such a Horrible Job

Most bosses try to sugarcoat the job description for menial tasks... not this one.  At least he's honest.

Why did you put this under "Humor"?

there's no category for dark humor.

I got a good chuckle out of this and in my case it's very close to home. I am so ready to quit it all and become homeless!

Oh in case you didn't notice, Nicolas Cage's character is insane.  It was the absurd expression in his eyes that struck me as funny.

But then, humor is really in the eye of the beholder, isn't it?

I work with a bunch of Phd's and while they are very polite it is frequently inferred that their time is more valuable than mine and any advice or ideas I could possibly have are immediately discarded. When I worked for "lowly" engineers I was actually respected quite a bit more. I have found that the scientific world is very hard on women.

The scientific world is hard on reality in general-lol

I heard an interesting point about doctors last week (medical docs-I know that's not what you were talking about) from an inventor/entrepreneur (Mellen-Thomas Benedict) who has worked for years with doctors who helped him with his medical inventions. The group were clucking knowingly about doctors focus on money but he stopped this and said actually many doctors have broken hearts because their patients just ignore their advice and ask for pills instead. He said most docs got into it to help people...It almost made me cry. I was reminded of how grateful I was to the brilliant surgeon who saved my 4 year old son with a heart surgery technique he invented. Talk about making a difference!

Thanks for that story Brian. That reminds me again - good people stuck in a bad system frequently don't behave very well. The trick is to ignore the system no matter what or start your system.
