Demand Natural Burial

Okay, it may not be on your bucket list, but as long as we're 'going green', perhaps we should put this on the list.  Caitlin Doughty gives us the skinny on 'natural" burial'.  Who says morticians can't be funny?

I ran across a family awhile ago that buried their father the 'green' way.  He was terminally ill and in a wheelchair.  The family was able to take him out to the area dedicated to burials to picnic and get a feel for the land.  They spent a day together enjoying nature with the intention of locating the place where his body would be laid to rest.  He chose a beautiful spot beneath a large tree. A few months later, he made his transition.  His body was wrapped in a beautiful pendleton blanket and he was buried in the ground without the usual casket etc.  His wishes were fulfilled.

He felt he was to finish the cycle of life that he was a part of by giving back to the Earth the elements from which he was made.  I think it's a beautiful sentiment and an option that more of us should have available to us if burial is our wish. We sometimes do more to appease the family and make them comfortable than we do to acknowledge the wishes of the departing one.
