Joan of Arc

These images were taken of the Istanbul Mevlevi group of which I once was a part of.

It was the only Turkish Mevlevi group to use women semazens (whirlers).

The sheikh would ask each female semazen what colour she had in her heart:

the answer was turned into the colour of her khirkr (robe).

These are the colours you see in the video.

I thought it a perfect vehicle for a rendition of Joan of Arc: enjoy....

Interesting to see words by Leonard Cohen too!!!

Have always found the "whirlers" intuitive expression to be representative of something straight out of dreams, so profound that words don't quite work to fully describe what that whirling really represents in the true nature of our metaphysical/spiritual existence that is so much more real than our transient, always-in-flux physical bodies.
