This is a growing community, and about the only thing everyone has in common is the 21 units in the Transformation Course, which is to say that each of us has earned our seat at the table and our right to try out the plasma squibulator. There's been some kvetching and some reacting, and I don't like either one. The reaction in particular I dislike, because it's the wrong way to deal with dissent. Wrong as in Old Paradigm.
I for one will never take part in an "invitation only" chat or thread on this portal. Why? Because it erodes the impeccablility of my word. Nothing I have to say cannot be said publicly - who reads it is their business. If I offend someone, I'll probably apologize, but if I'm convinced I'm right I will not change my mind. I'm more likely to let it pass, which is what I counseled Riversong to do with his issues. But now I realize he was right. I know it because he was silenced. And that sends a message to every person who thinks he's found cyber-utopia.
If we kick out all those who seem to express themselves through conflict, then we fail to hear from those who are strong enough not to run from it. If all the nice folks leave, that leaves us a**holes. If all the red-heads leave, or all the people with glasses or all the Jews or all the lefties or everyone who picks his nose has to either apologize and toe the line or hit the road...well folks, what do you suppose that does to the intellectual gene pool?
If we can't tolerate each other before we even have a hundred people, then I'm wasting my time here for sure. There's work to get done.
