It was late morning on warm August day In Beirut Lebanon. Ed and I were the only ones on the Street of The Mosques. We were just sailors in our dress whites and spit shined shoes with a tour brochure. We had a deep curiosity, a deep reverence and a burning desire to feel the essence of these ancient places.

Of course we need to know what lay in our path -- and we need to assess if what we're being told is true or not, and let's have that be a question that sits on the table as we go into this report.  However, denial is not a useful response.  And fear is not a useful response for us, either (although we know that our fear is very useful to a very few others).  Clarity is necessary, and it is in the service of clarity that this article is posted.
